Carnival too often rhymes with incivility. In fact, during this period, as happens every year, Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples is transformed into a sort of manure heap and invaded by plastic bags for confetti and spray cans.

Thus citizens and tourists are forced to take a walk among the rubbish in the most important and representative square of the city.

Once again, the Green-Left alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli documented the situation during an inspection, with all the plastic and confetti carried by the wind right next to the Royal Palace.

“This happens every year and we report it every year. The square is invaded by people who believe that to celebrate Carnival it is right to leave behind a sea of garbage and by illegal confetti sellers.

Incivility knows no bounds and, unfortunately, it is proposed to children since they are taught to celebrate in this barbaric way. Of course, there should be more controls here but if we really want to improve then everyone should take their own responsibilities.

The worst thing is that some of this plastic waste will not be collected by street cleaners and will end up in drains or directly in the sea,” Borrelli said.
