In Caserta mammography with contrast medium

In response to women's health needs, the National and Highly Specialized Hospital Trust "Sant'Anna e San Sebastiano" in Caserta strengthens and improves the quality of its healthcare offering in the breast diagnostics sector.

Two new features in the Diagnostic Imaging Unit, directed by Dr. Paolo D'Andrea:
1) contrast-enhanced mammography, reserved for patients recruited in the oncology network;
2) the activation of an outpatient clinic including mammography and breast ultrasound.
“The Caserta Hospital Trust - highlights the Director of the Diagnostic Imaging Unit - is one of the first and few centers in Campania to perform mammography with contrast medium.

With the support of the Strategic Management, we were able to introduce, with an adjustment
technological development of the high-performance mammograph currently in use, a system dedicated to this investigation. Contrast mammography - explains Dr. D'Andrea - is a third-level exam. It is a technology that, by exploiting different energies of ionizing radiation, allows the image of the tumor to be amplified, when the latter is impregnated with an iodinated contrast medium, injected intravenously, in all respects similar to that of the CT.

It is performed -specifically- on patients with confirmed carcinoma who, for various reasons, cannot undergo breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), in the follow-up of women who have undergone surgery and/or chemotherapy or in breasts that are difficult to interpret with mammography.

The examination guarantees results similar to those of the MRI and is often faster and better
tolerated by patients”.
Meanwhile, from today, the Diagnostic Imaging Unit of the AORN of Caserta is active
the comprehensive mammography and breast ultrasound clinic, which guarantees both instrumental examinations in a single session. This is to facilitate patients, ensuring a complete diagnosis in a short time and reducing the inevitable stress from the fractionation of services.

The clinic is open on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, from 8:00 to 14:00. To access, you need a prescription from your general practitioner and a reservation through one of the following methods:

 booking at the CUP counters, located in building B and open on weekdays: from Monday
Friday / 8:00 – 17:00, Saturday / 8:00 – 12:00;
 online booking at the Campania Region's single CUP, by connecting to the Citizen Health Portal or the Campania in Salute App.
