Santa Maria a Vico. The 49-year-old police officer who shot and wounded a 19-year-old man in the leg in Santa Maria a Vico on the night between Saturday and Sunday while defending his son, who had been arguing with the victim's friends, will remain under house arrest.

This was decided by the investigating judge of the Santa Maria Capua Vetere court who validated the arrest of the 49-year-old, carried out on Sunday by the Carabinieri on charges of serious injury.

The investigative investigations carried out by the Carabinieri of the Maddaloni company confirmed the dynamics of the facts, with the 49-year-old policeman - on duty in the Naples area at the Highway Police - who intervened at the request of his 18-year-old son, who complained of having been beaten by other boys in Piazza Falcone e Borsellino, a meeting place for many young people from Santa Maria a Vico, where fights and violent arguments are not uncommon.

The policeman answered the questions of the investigating judge explaining that he did not use his service weapon, but a clandestine 6 caliber weapon that he threw away after shooting. “Because I realized I had made a mistake,” he explained.

The injured 19-year-old instead explained to the Carabinieri investigators that he “found himself in the middle of the argument between the policeman and other kids”. “But I – he explained – had no problem with the officer’s son, nor did we argue”.
