Engineer Giancarlo Sarno, director of the “Road Technical Management and Traffic Management Department” of the Metropolitan City of Naples, was acquitted.

He was the sole defendant in the trial for the crimes of failure to install road signs and manslaughter in the death of Simone Aricò, a young man from Giugliano in Campania who died in an accident in the Naples area in July 2017.

According to the Naples North Prosecutor's Office, the defendant allegedly contributed to causing the death of the 19-year-old, on the 'Circumvallazione Esterna', by failing to install the guardrail barrier to protect the lateral pillars of the roadway into which the car crashed.

The sentence of the judge Antonella Autorino of the Court of Naples North is of acquittal for both the crimes contested. The deputy prosecutor Giovanni Corona had instead requested the conviction of the manager to one year and two months of imprisonment.

The boy's family (defended by Professor Alfonso Furgiuele and lawyer Luca Bancale) have joined the civil action. The entire road axis was seized on the stretch where the accident occurred.
