The Teatro Bolivar (Via Bartolomeo Caracciolo, 30), directed by Nu'Tracks, also features international music. Friday, February 17, starting at 21.00:XNUMX p.m., on the stage of the Materdei theater, Fantastic Negrito will present White Jesus Black Problems Film screening, Q&A & acoustic performance.
Winner of three Grammy Awards in the “Best Contemporary Blues Album” category and a few months after the release of “White Jesus Black Problems Film screening”, his fourth and acclaimed studio album, whose single “Oh Betty” received a Grammy nomination in the “Best American Roots Performance” category, Fantastic Negrito chooses Naples as one of the five special Italian stages.
“White Jesus Black Problems” is the artist’s most ambitious project to date: an ancestral journey through blues, black music, and rock. The album is accompanied by a film followed by an audience Q&A, interspersed with solo acoustic performances. Part love story, part history lesson, Fantastic Negrito’s stunning new album is a rousing ode to the strength of family and the enduring resilience of mankind. He draws inspiration from the interracial—and illegal—love story of his ancestors, a white servant and a black slave in 1750s Virginia.
The album’s songs are bold and thought-provoking in their exploration of racism, capitalism, and the true meaning of freedom, while never losing sight of the desire and determination that underpins the narrative. Each track can sum up the meaning of the entire album, but analyzing the album and its accompanying film as a whole leads to a much more transcendent experience, challenging our understanding of who we are: where we came from and where we’re going.

BIOGRAPHY
Fantastic Negrito burst onto the international scene in 2015, when he won the NPR Tiny Desk Contest. Since then, he has continued to earn success, awards and recognition, including a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album for each of his three albums: 'The Last Days of Oakland' (2017), 'Please Don't Be Dead' (2019) and 'Have You Lost Your Mind Yet?' (2020).
His story is truly compelling and rooted in struggle and contention: from the highs of a million-dollar record deal to the lows of a near-fatal car accident that left him in a coma, permanently damaged his hand, and changed his outlook on life. From the streets of Oakland to the world stage, Fantastic Negrito’s music exudes candor, between black music, roots, punk and blues, lyrics of autobiography and condemnation, lyrics of hope and sincerity.
Outside of music, Xavier is putting his socially progressive side into action and has created Storefront Market, a free-to-the-public marketplace featuring vendors representing the West Oakland community and surrounding neighborhoods. He also runs his own urban farm, Revolution Plantation, where he teaches the community how to garden, an effort to impart practices that can support local neighborhoods and our planet alike, while connecting with his newly discovered Free Negro Farmer ancestors.
Over the summer, Fantastic Negrito released the single “Rolling Through California,” a “twangy, country-soul groove” (New York Times) rallying cry for solidarity and collective action in the wake of drought, water management challenges, and the growing calamity of California’s wildfires. Recorded at his Oakland studio, the track also features a powerful vocal performance from fellow artist Miko Marks.
Negrito also recently received his fourth Grammy nomination for 'Oh Betty' from 'White Jesus Black Problems' and announced his presence on stage on the afternoon of Thursday 18 May at the Parco Urbano G. Bassani in Ferrara for the first Italian date – already sold out – of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
