On Via Cimarosa in Vomero, it's becoming mandatory to stop in front of the art installation by civic art master Ruben D'Agostino while waiting for the funicular to reopen.
“It's called The Long Wait because we will never know how long we will have to wait for the Chiaia Funicular to reopen,” the maestro explained to Il Mattino.
The closure of the funicular from time immemorial and for an indefinite period, is a clear cut in the city: Vomero and Chiaia separated forever to the detriment of vehicular traffic which physiologically increases.
Civic art teacher Ruben D'Agostino has set up a comfortable waiting room: chairs, a small table, coffee, a puzzle book and a TV set turned on to what appears to be a cross between a historical film and a science fiction film: a working funicular.
A group called “The orphans of the Chiaia funicular” was also created on Facebook, also because before the 2024 there will be no reopening as announced last month by Mayor Manfredi and Councilor Cosenza. So "enjoy" the wait.
