San Cipriano d'Aversa. “More than a complaint, it is a cry of alarm, also because complaints have been made, but they have had no effect”.
Rosa Lastoria, director of the Emilio Segrè Scientific High School in Milan, has a slightly tired but certainly not resigned voice. San Cipriano d'Aversa (Caserta), when he talks about the thefts and damages that occurred in the school between February 15 and 17, when a gang of 6-7 hooded men broke into the institute twice in three nights, digging up and stealing very expensive electrical cables, opening the principal's safe, and taking possession of computers and other goods used by the students.
A “border institute” in an almost literal sense, because it is located outside the town in an isolated area, almost a no man's land; even in the past the Segrè, precisely because of its location, has been the object of continuous thefts, then video surveillance cameras were installed inside the perimeter - there are none outside - but the thieves returned anyway on several occasions.
A story, that of Segrè, light years away from the events that occurred in Florence, in which a school principal became the protagonist of a debate on high values, "while here in San Cipriano we are still reporting the continuous thefts that cause huge damage and even psychological distress to the kids".
Lastoria addresses the Province of Caserta, owner of the institute, but also the minister Valditara, so that "there is greater attention on Segrè and his boys.
I must say that the local authorities are close to us, the Province intervened immediately after the first theft to replace the stolen cable, even the Municipality makes us feel its closeness, but more effort is needed. We ask for a 24-hour surveillance service, obviously the school does not have the money to equip itself with it, the highest institutional levels must think about it”.
