_______

February 17, 1992. Milan. What should have been a quiet day at the beginning of the election campaign will go down in history as the start of Tangentopoli. This book investigates the context, the protagonists and the consequences of the unpredictable “revolution” of 1992, showing that the Italian political system was not a “death foretold”. Tangentopoli is placed by the author within the real dynamics that contributed to producing it, distancing itself from deterministic readings, often conditioned by political-ideological convictions or by the personal experiences of commentators and scholars. The aim is to rebalance interpretations and categories abused in public and historiographical debate, thus contributing to completing the knowledge on the most serious crisis of the Republic.

Andrea Marino, PhD in Contemporary History, is a research fellow and contract professor at the University of Salerno, Department of Humanistic Studies/DIPSUM, Department of Cultural Heritage Sciences/DISPAC. He has mainly dealt with parties, institutions and ruling groups in the Republican era. He is the author of the volume “La Campania dei partiti. Stato centrale e poteri locali” (Rubbettino 2019). He is a municipal councilor in Pellezzano, with responsibilities for Culture, Technological Innovation, Roads and Productive Activities.
