March 5th marks the return of #domenicalmuseo, the Ministry of Culture's initiative that allows free admission to state museums and archaeological parks every first Sunday of the month.

Tours will take place during regular opening hours, with reservations required where applicable. In February, attendance was 237.796; the most visited state cultural sites were: Colosseum (Flavian Amphitheater only) 13.685; Pompeii Archaeological Park 13.090; The Uffizi Gallery 9.902; Royal Palace of Caserta 8.483; Boboli Gardens 7.653; Palatine Forum 6.534; Villae di Tivoli 6.307; Pitti Palace 6.236; National Museum of Castel Sant'Angelo 6.100; Royal Palace of Naples 5.266; National Archaeological Museum of Naples 5.200; Castel Sant'Elmo and Museum of the Twentieth Century 3.101; Charterhouse and Museum of San Martino 2.432.

"It is an event that demonstrates how these sites are a living body of the nation.", commented on that occasion the owner of the Roman College, Gennaro Sangiuliano. "Everyone, Italians and foreigners, is hungry for beauty, knowledge, and understanding. These days clearly further increase awareness of the identity-building value of these places. Therefore, as I've already announced, starting this year there will be three additional days of free museum admission. These three dates correspond to three important events in our country's history: April 3th, June 25nd, and November 2th.
