The Ogn Sea-Eye4 ship docked in the port of Naples, with 106 migrants on board and two dead bodies.
On board the vessel there was also a third migrant in serious conditions who later died in hospital: at the height of the Strait of Messina a distress call was launched, the man was transported by helicopter ambulance from the ship to the hospital in Messina, but he died shortly after being admitted.
Waiting for the migrants on the dock of the port were not only staff from the ASL Napoli 1, the regional Civil Protection and the police, but also a group of activists. The Sea-Eye4 was expected around 7, but the unfavorable weather conditions slowed down the arrival in the Neapolitan city.
Health care is being organized for 23 people, who will be hospitalized. The ASL Napoli 1 reports that there are 20 adult hospitalizations expected (lacerated-contused wounds, burns, diabetes, trauma and other pathologies).
A pregnant woman also tested positive for Covid on board
In this regard, the ASL has set up a reserved department at the Ospedale del Mare with 20 beds: "In case there are specific needs, we will identify other facilities" they explain from the health company. Two hospitalizations among minors who go to the Santobono hospital. There is also a woman positive for Covid, 3 months pregnant, welcomed in isolation at the obstetrics department of the Ospedale del Mare.
Migrants: Naples, 22 unaccompanied minors on Sea Eye
Twenty-two unaccompanied minors arrived in Naples on the Sea Eye 4 ship and, after clinical checks, will be hosted in communities made available by the Municipality in partnership with the Prefecture.
"Naples was ready to welcome them. Thanks to the social workers of the Municipality and the psychological mediators of the third sector network who immediately made themselves available by participating in the reception operations from the moment of disembarkation. I followed the journey of the Sea Eye 4 with great apprehension - declared the Welfare Councilor Luca Trapanese - and we immediately took action to welcome the unaccompanied minors and to bury the bodies, unfortunately three, that we had been informed were on board the vessel.
In moments like these, we can touch with our own hands the absurdity of life and the unacceptable social inequalities of the era in which we live. As a city and as an Administration, we will do everything to best welcome these brothers of ours, not only in these first dramatic and unspeakable moments of pain”.
After the landing of the NGO ship Sea Eye that arrived in Naples about two hours ago, the ASL 1 has prepared a series of actions for the reception. The place identified is the Residence dell'Ospedale del Mare: on the 1st and 2nd floor adults and family groups; on the 3rd floor unaccompanied minors (22 minors), they are those who will go to the municipal structure which for now - they explain from the ASL Napoli 1 - "is not ready (maybe it will be the day after tomorrow)". The 4th floor is dedicated to positive cases.
