Migrant shipwreck in Crotone: two more alleged traffickers arrested

Two other people have reportedly been arrested, according to rumors gathered in judicial circles, on charges of being the smugglers of the vessel that yesterday morning crashed into a reef off the coast of Cutro, in the Crotone area, causing the migrants on board to fall into the sea.

The second alleged smuggler of the boat arrested by law enforcement is a Pakistani citizen. The third suspect, however, has not yet been traced.

The confirmed victims of the shipwreck, at the moment, are 59, including many children, and there are dozens missing. Eighty people were saved. The two people who are said to be under arrest are added to the one of Turkish nationality already blocked, with the same accusation, yesterday.

In the next few hours, investigators will interview some of the survivors of the shipwreck that occurred yesterday off the coast of Crotone.

And, in addition to the alleged Turkish smuggler who was already arrested yesterday, two other people were arrested in the last few hours and their position is currently being examined by investigators.

The Public Prosecutor's Office, which has opened a case for multiple disasters and manslaughter as well as aiding and abetting illegal immigration, intends to reconstruct the dynamics of the incident, starting from the exact number of migrants on board the vessel, the manner in which the shipwreck occurred and, above all, to ascertain the responsibilities of the alleged traffickers who were in charge of the vessel that left Izmir, Turkey, four days ago.
