The Naples Public Prosecutor's Office has opened criminal proceedings for the alleged crime of manslaughter in the yet-to-be-clarified death of Veronika Kvas, who was only 42 years old (she would have turned 43 on July 9).
The woman of Ukrainian origins, but a long-time resident of Ottaviano, died on Saturday 11 February 2023 at the Ospedale del Mare due to a very probable heart attack after having been discharged the previous night from the Trusso Cariomed nursing home in Ottaviano itself, where she had been accompanied by her husband due to the severe chest pains she was feeling.
The Public Prosecutor in charge of the case, Dr. Stella Castaldo, has also entered in the register of suspects a doctor who treated the victim, AR, 65 years old, from Pollica (Salerno), also as a necessary act to allow him to appoint any technical consultants for the non-repeatable tests.
The magistrate, in fact, in addition to having seized all the medical records, also ordered an autopsy on the body and assigned the task in the early afternoon of today, Wednesday 22 February 2023, at the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office, to a pool of technical consultants consisting of the forensic doctor Dr. Gaetano Buonocore, the cardiologist Fabio Minicucci and the pathologist Oscar Nappi, who proceeded to follow up with the examination.
The results of the autopsy and expert operations will be essential to provide the first answers to the husband of the forty-two-year-old, Abdellatif El Quatiq, who, in order to be assisted, to shed full light on the facts and responsibilities and to obtain justice, has turned to Studio3A-Valore SpA

As is sadly known, Veronika Kvas, on the night of Friday 10 February 2023, felt ill, complaining of chest pain and difficulty breathing. Her husband then took her to the nearby Casa di Cura Trusso Cardiomed where the patient arrived shortly after 5: the clinic, after the tragedy, announced that it had started an internal investigation into the incident and that it had made itself available to the judicial authorities to ascertain the truth.
Here Veronika was treated in the first aid department and underwent some tests, before being discharged at 7.30 with the diagnosis of “thoracoalgia with vomiting” and the prescription of some medicines.
Once she returned home, however, the situation did not improve much, indeed, the forty-two-year-old felt worse and worse as the hours passed, the pain in her chest, throat and stomach became even worse and on the night of Saturday 11 February, while she was going to the bathroom, she also lost consciousness. In the morning, having also consulted a cardiologist, her husband then called 118 and the woman was rushed by ambulance, in red code, to the Ospedale del Mare, but by then it was too late: at 12 the doctors had to certify her death due to cardiac arrest.
The shocked husband, left alone with a 12-year-old son who lost his mother prematurely, went to the Carabinieri barracks in Somma Vesuviana and filed a complaint asking the judicial authorities to ascertain the causes of death and, above all, any liability on the part of the health workers who treated his wife, with particular reference to those who treated her at the Trusso clinic, to understand whether the woman could have been saved, if she had been hospitalized and subjected to more in-depth tests.
And to be supported in this search for truth and justice, the man, through the legal consultant Dr. Vincenzo Carotenuto, turned to Studio3A-Valore SpA, a company specialized at a national level in compensation for damages and the protection of citizens' rights. The complaint was immediately acknowledged by the Prosecutor's Office with the opening of an investigation and, now, with the first provisions of the investigating magistrate.
