Qatargate, Cozzolino's lawyers: 'Panzeri makes everything up'

We learn, once again from the newspapers, of statements from Antonio Panzeri that implicate, among others, the Honorable Andrea Cozzolino, with a fantastical and fiery tale, typical of someone who knows nothing and invents the incredible to gain the promised and obtained benefits.

This is the dark side of self-interested repentance, but what is most relevant is that his words are given so much credence, in the absence of external elements of confirmation. It cannot leave us indifferent, in fact, that he made these declarations on February 14, or after the arrest of Cozzolino, which occurred on February 10, without there yet being any elements against him.

We are also concerned that these statements were released by the press, in violation of the confidentiality of the investigation, immediately after the impartiality of the Belgian judicial initiative was called into question by a challenge addressed to Judge Claise and that the well-known London newspaper, The Times, questioned their reliability by revealing that Panzeri and Giorgi had shared the same cell in prison while they were being interrogated.

An increasingly opaque scenario, behind which a parallel and underground foreign policy game is being played out regarding the role of European institutions, and in whose background the actions of the secret services continue to hover, which raises serious doubts as to whether the Belgian judicial system can guarantee Cozzolino a fair trial..

Federico Conte and Dezio Ferraro, Andrea Cozzolino's Italian lawyers, made this statement as they entered the Palace of Justice in Naples, where a decision on the Italian MEP's extradition request is expected today.
