He had failed to include the more than four million euros stolen (4.276.000 in gold bars to be precise) in his tax return and was therefore sentenced by the Court of Arezzo to one year and ten months of unconditional imprisonment for tax evasion.
This is the new verdict against Antonio Di Stazio, a former Securpol security guard, already sentenced to three years and nine months in the second degree for the theft of the large load of precious metal that disappeared on 11 July 2016 from the van entrusted to him, only to be found empty: the stolen goods were never recovered.
The news of the new conviction is reported today by the local newspapers, the “Corriere di Arezzo” and the Arezzo edition of the “Nazione”. When Di Stazio was in prison he should have declared that stolen sum but he did not do so and so the State claims tax evasion of one million and 900 thousand euros.
The sole judge of the Court of Arezzo, Giorgio Margheri, found the defendant guilty of failure to pay. The public prosecutor Michela Rossi in the hearing had asked for one year and eight months. After serving three years and six months for the theft, the former security guard now has another account to settle with justice.
Thanks to the Cartabia reform, Di Stazio will not return to prison and will be able to access community service in Castel Volturno where he lives.
