In 1737 Charles of Bourbon inaugurated what would become the first still active opera house in the world, one of the most beautiful and prestigious, also considering the great musical school that was linked to it.
A few days ago, during some restoration work, the original colours emerged (a splendid light blue) and some lilies covered or plucked by the Savoy family (and which will be covered again).
The damages of unification, for the South, were not only those related to massacres and looting but also and above all to the cancellation, in books as in monuments, of historical memory, of an identity and of an increasingly precious and necessary pride.
The Neo-Bourbon Movement sent an appeal to the superintendent of San Carlo, Stéphane Lissner, asking him to leave those lilies on display as an act of gratitude to those who wanted that theatre and left it to us, and as testimony to a memory that was unjustly erased and rediscovered.
