Ten arrests (five in prison and five under house arrest) were carried out by the Carabinieri of Mercato San Severino , in the province of Salerno , as part of an investigation into drug dealing in the Irno Valley.

According to the investigators, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Salerno, the suspects allegedly took care of the possession , transportation and dealing of cocaine , crack , marijuana and hashish.
A first group is said to have operated between Baronissi , Pellezzano and Mercato San Severino while a second – made up of three people related by kinship – in the San Vincenzo district of Mercato San Severino.
A person “at the top” of the organization also in prison
Another person, considered to be at the top of the drug dealing organization, was also held in custody.
The investigations began following the double homicide of Vincenzo Salvati and Aniello Califano , killed in October 2020 by Vincenzo Ansalone , from Baronissi , after an argument over unpaid cocaine , during which the man fired six gunshots , fatally wounding both victims.
Ansalone was definitively convicted of the murder , also for the related drug trafficking.
Investigations by the Salerno DDA and the Nocera Inferiore Prosecutor's Office have revealed new balances in the management of drug dealing centers following the double homicide and have confirmed the existence of new organizations that have replaced the one led by Salvati.
