The state property information system has recorded 26.313 concessions, 15.414 of which are for tourist-recreational use.

If numerically the tourist-recreational ones are prevalent (58,6% of the total), from the point of view of the surface they are absolutely residual, occupying just 0,50% of the total state-owned area.

Thus the study 'Management and Enhancement of the coastal state property: management models', carried out by Nomisma on behalf of the SIB Italian Beach Resort Union and FIPE-Confcommercio, which highlights a series of structural changes in the seaside economy both in terms of supply and demand.

In the 7.466 km long Italian coastline, the low coasts are equal to 3.951 Km (52,9%), for 42,5% affected by the erosive phenomenon (source Ispra). Another element that qualifies the concessions for tourist-recreational use, we read in the study, is the small size of the occupied surface: 72,3% does not exceed 3.000 m94,9, and 10.000% XNUMX mXNUMX.

The beach businesses, the analysis specifies, are only a part of the companies that use the state property for tourism and recreation. These are 6.592 businesses (maritime, lake and river) that employ, in the high season months, 60 thousand workers (43 thousand of which are employees).

At the regional level, the first 3 positions are occupied by Emilia Romagna with 969 beach businesses (14,7% of the sector), Tuscany with 850 (12,9%) and Liguria with 753 (11,4%), followed by Campania (645; 9,8%), Calabria (578; 8,8%) and Lazio (513; 7,8%). The survey carried out by Nomisma estimates an average turnover of approximately 260.000 euros per business, 50% of which is generated by 'traditional services': beach, parking and equipment rental.

Bars and restaurants contribute an additional share of around 48% of the total. For eight out of ten entrepreneurs (including owners and partners), the beach business represents the main source of income for the family. Significant investments in the last 2 years, the study warns, 60% have purchased equipment and furnishings; 50% removable structures. Improved beach services (93% of cases), the bar (85%), the restaurant (70%) and the area for children (50%).
