Another important operation in the fight against scams against the elderly was carried out by the Carabinieri in Cori where two men were arrested, a 50-year-old and a 35-year-old from the province of Caserta.
The service is part of the prevention and repression efforts against this phenomenon, which is particularly acute in this area and elsewhere in the province. This is part of the countermeasures requested by the provincial commander of Latina, Colonel Lorenzo D'Aloia, and planned with the Aprilia Territorial Unit.
Last Friday, February 17th, in particular, officers from the Cori station, after receiving several reports of ongoing scams targeting elderly residents in the historic center, carried out a surveillance operation. During this operation, they noticed a suspicious vehicle, which turned out to be a rental vehicle, inside which was a man who appeared to be waiting for someone else to arrive.
The car was then monitored and in fact, shortly thereafter, another man arrived and got on board; then the two drove away. The car was then stopped and checked by the Carabinieri who, during the checks, ascertained that the two had just committed a scam.
The victim is a 94-year-old man who was intimidated by a telephone request from a supposed son who told him that if he did not pay a sum of money to cover an administrative fine, he would be arrested.
Thus, through this psychological leverage, the scammers managed to obtain a large quantity of gold jewelry worth approximately 40 thousand euros, which, once recovered by the military, were returned to the victim who filed a complaint against them.
The two arrested have been placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority
