“The latest discovery in the area where the construction site for the doubling of the Circumvesuviana on the Naples – Sorrento stretch is taking place doesn't surprise me ,” says Salvatore Vozza.

"We have repeatedly emphasized the need to halt these works." What is happening, and has happened, amid the silence of the leadership of the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Landscape of the Naples metropolitan area and their stubborn refusal to engage with EAV is unacceptable.

This is the third archaeological discovery that occurs in a few years. We all remember what happened in the square in front of the Castellammare Centro station of the Circumvesuviana and in via R. Margherita.

Even then, excavations in Piazza Unità d'Italia uncovered artifacts, the construction site was halted, and the remains were covered over. This time , adds former mayor Vozza, it was even more obvious and obvious that artifacts from ancient Stabiae would be uncovered (those discovered are ancient walls that resemble Roman-era cisterns); this time, a large-scale construction site opened on the front of the Varano hill, above which are the villas of Stabiae, resulting in a waste of resources to construct a tunnel that is not only useless but also harmful.

What is happening in Castellammare is intolerable. The Ministry of Culture underestimated the impact that the construction of that project would have on such a sensitive area, one that holds memories of great importance. EAV continues to improvise, opening unnecessary construction sites, while closing stations or "selling" them, as in the case of Castellammare Terme.

We need greater respect for our city. Given all this, I think it's time to open a serious discussion to make coherent choices. Perhaps the time has come to entrust the entire municipal territory of Castellammare to the Pompeii Archaeological Park, removing it from the jurisdiction of the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of the Metropolitan Area of Naples. This is precisely because Stabiae needs a unified vision, and the division between two offices of the Ministry of Culture is no longer relevant.

It is a change of direction and strategy that would be good for Castellammare and for the protection and enhancement of the treasures of Stabiae. I also hope for an initiative by Commissioner Pref. Cannizzaro to re-discuss the Eav programs on Castellammare and the choices for more effective protection by the Ministry of Culture”.
