GESAC, management company of the airports di Napoli e Salerno, and Arpac, Regional Agency for the environmental Protection of Campania, have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at the implementation of measures for restraint of the noise of aeronautical origin and of the emissions di Co2, through the adoption of new air routes and the improvement of the monitoring system Environmental Sustainability.

Environmental and health protection: new routes for Capodichino airport

The cooperation arises from the need to test in the field the new initiatives that GESAC is making a environmental Protection and health collective, with particular reference to the reduction of the noise and emissions di climate-altering gas.

GESAC has in fact commissioned to Enav (National Flight Assistance Agency), a new anti-noise procedure which avoids the I fly over of the Old Town di Napoli for all departing flights heading north.

According to aeronautical studies, in fact, this will allow minimize The acoustic impacts (30% less than the exposed population) andemission di climate-altering gases (11 thousand tons of CO2 per year), as well as reducing annual flight time by approximately 500 hours.

This procedure, which came into force on an experimental basis last 23 February, will see its full application in the next weeks, as airlines update their on-board navigation systems to include it among those already in use.

In order to validate the forecast estimates and measure the overall benefits of the new routes, Arpac will carry out campaigns Acoustic monitoring using 2 new monitoring stations that add to the 8 existing ones that make up the monitoring system of GESAC, implemented already in 2003.

Barbieri (Gesac): "Our commitment to sustainability"

"With the protocol signed today - declares the CEO of Gesac Roberto Barbieri - We are adding another important piece to our commitment to sustainability, awarded with the Aca 4+, the highest level of environmental certification in the airport sector, recognized to only 18 management companies in the world".

"By partnering with an institutional partner whom I thank for their fundamental contribution, Gesac is strengthening its investment plan for the sustainable growth of the airport, protecting the environment and public health."

Sorvino (Arpac): "Checks on noise impact"

The director of Arpac, Stephen Sorvinohe adds: "Controls and monitoring of the noise impact of commercial, manufacturing, and transportation activities represent an important function assigned to the environmental protection system."

"In addition to the institutional controls carried out by the Campania Environmental Agency, targeted and specific agreements are in place, for example with municipalities for monitoring so-called evening and nightlife."

"With this agreement, we are adding another significant segment to Arpac's operations in this area, thanks also to the vision of the managing entity, which is well aware of the unique relationship between Capodichino airport, a key asset for the economy of Southern Italy, and the metropolitan context in which it is located, and of the need to carefully monitor environmental performance."
