Naples. Another cold case solved by the Carabinieri. 3 people in handcuffs for a murder committed 20 years ago. Among the instigators were Michele and Vincenzo Mazzarella. The victim was considered responsible for a hole of 100 million lire from the clan's coffers.
On March 6, 2023, at the Naples District Prisons Secondigliano, Parma and Syracuse, the Investigative Unit of Naples has executed a personal precautionary measure, issued by the GIP at the Court of Naples at the request of the local Anti-Mafia District Directorate, against 3 suspects, all prisoners and leading members of the Mazzarella clan, as they are considered to be seriously suspected of the murder - aggravated by mafia purposes - of Lausi Salvatore, also affiliated with the aforementioned clan, which occurred in Naples on 6 October 2002.
The investigations, conducted by the aforementioned Nucleus through interception activities and cross-checking of statements by collaborators of justice, have allowed to ascertain that the murder constituted an internal purge within the clan, originating from the fact that the victim, in charge of the extortion collectionin the neighborhoods Forcella, Maddalena and Sanità was held responsible for the'shortfall of 100 million lire from the association's cash register;
– had established synergic relationships with Miss Joseph (at the time head and founder of the clan of the same name operating in the Sanità district, who later became a collaborator of justice), which was interpreted as a desire to affiliate himself with the latter, dissociating himself from the Mazzarellas, of whom he could have revealed confidential information;
– in addition, she had taken possession of a valuable watch of another member, forcefully taking it away from him.
The measure carried out is a precautionary measure, ordered during preliminary investigations, against which appeals are permitted, and the recipients of the same are people subjected to investigations and, therefore, presumed innocent until the final sentence.
The people reached by the measure are:
Michael Mazzarella, born in Naples on 14.7.1978, as principal;
– Mazzarella Vincenzo, born in Naples on 25.9.1949, as principal and organizer;
Barrel Salvatore, born in Naples on 15.5.1984, as material executor (in competition with SPIRITO Ciro Giovanni and DE BERNARDO Vincenzo, deceased).
