She is defined as "a real boss in a skirt", MArianna Julian, daughter of the former clan leader of Forcella, Louis Julian, a collaborator of justice for years, and the boss's wife Michele Mazzarella, 45 years old, arrested today on charges of having ordered the murder of Salvatore Lausi, the clan's treasurer found guilty of having made a safe entrusted to him containing 100 million lire disappear.

Thanks to his wife, according to the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Naples, Michele constantly followed the activities of his clan despite being detained. The name Marianna also hit the headlines in Naples in October 2022, when the Carabinieri "blocked" the party for her 43rd birthday at night, organized, complete with an illegal stage, singers, balloons and fireworks in Luzzatti District, considered a stronghold of the Mazzarella, which became the setting for the book and then the fiction "The Genius Friend" by Elena Ferrante.

According to what emerged from the Carabinieri investigations, Michele, from prison, sent letters to his affiliates, including the regent at the time. Eduardo Bove (sentimentally linked to Anna Julian, sister of Luigi Giuliano). After the murder of Bove (killed on January 5, 2005) it was precisely Anna Julian to deliver some letters to the investigators.

In statements made on July 11, 2007, a collaborator of justice, Michelangelo Mazza, defines Marianna Giuliano “a real boss in a skirt”. “She has always followed the affairs of the Mazzarella clan from a top position – explains the “repentant” – remaining somewhat on the sidelines at her husband’s important meetings”.

Then, when Michele Mazzarella was locked up in prison, the repentant explains further, "... his wife played a dual role, representing the channel of communication between the Mazzarella clan and Michele who continued to act as the boss, dictating directives and murder orders..." but, he adds, Marianna “…he was able to make decisions on his own and manage the clan’s ordinary illicit activities.”

This, according to Mazza, also put her in strong contrast with the Regent Bove and other top elements. Bove even attempted a split because of Marianna Giuliano, who received between 35 and 60 euros a month from clan, as well as shares from the proceeds of drug dealing, video poker and some extortion.

The victim Salvatore Lausi knew he could be killed

“How do I solve this… they only have to kill me now…”. Salvatore Lausi, the Mazzarella cashier killed by his clan in 2002 because they considered him an “infidel”, was aware that the 100 million lire shortfall for which he was held responsible would cost him his life.

Phone calls with his mother and brother-in-law have emerged and were intercepted by the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Naples, contained in the order with which the investigating judge Giovanni Vinciguerra ordered three precautionary measures against the two instigators and one of the material executors.

Il brother in law he tells him that he is ready to make a collection (“let's try to raise the money…”), offers 10 million of his own and also the proceeds from the sale of his motorbike, but he replies “it’s not 10 million but 100 million”. “Totore (Salvatore) they played a nice trick on you there… they played a really big one on you”.

In the conversation the two also try to think about who could have stolen the clan's money. The brother-in-law advances some hypotheses but Lausi believes that only someone from the family could have done it because they knew well the place where the money had been hidden, and he also accuses him and the husband of another sister.

After the murder of Salvatore Luisi, the sister also turned to a fortune teller

“Some money has disappeared… a healthy (whole, ed.) box has disappeared… 100 million… (lire)”. The family of Salvatore Lausi, killed by the Mazzarella clan because they believed he was responsible for the missing money, is looking for clues on a box containing one hundred million lire that has disappeared.

La victim's sister to clarify the mystery he even telephones a fortune teller to whom he also reveals some details of the story, but unfortunately, it will end with the murder of his brother, considered an unfaithful "cashier". The Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Naples manage to intercept the conversation.

The fortune teller, when she learns the amount of the figure, is astonished: “100 million?… your mother, no less, keeps 100 million in the house…”. Lausi's sister tries to explain herself but without giving precise references, and the fortune teller, who asks her a barrage of questions, finally reveals to her: “darling, I see a man’s hand here, but… it’s a big lie…”.

The victim's sister, tickled by this detail, tries to learn something else: “more or less, you can't tell what kind of job she does, because the other girl told me she was wearing a uniform…”. The fortune teller, at a certain point, admonishes her by saying that all that money in the house should not be kept and that if it was well hidden only one person in the house could have found it.

The conversation is interrupted by a lapidary phrase from the fortune teller “…anyway, listen, I can tell you… that it was a man but there was also the hand of another woman nearby, do you understand?”
