And exhibition of works created by students of three Salerno high schools.

The curtain will rise on Friday, March 3 at 10,30:35 am on the 35th edition of the Charlot Award. An unusual start for the event dedicated to the great Vagabond, conceived and directed by Claudio Tortora. An unconventional start to celebrate the XNUMXth birthday.

A ribbon cutting that starts from the “Foyer Peppe Natella” of the Teatro Delle Arti in Salerno, where until next April 2nd, the exhibition “Charlot e lo Charlot” will be hosted.
On display are photos that tell the story of the previous editions of the event, assembled in collages by the photographer from Salerno Adriana Scermino, who will also exhibit some of her images taken in the last two editions.

But that's not all, some of the posters that have become part of the history of the event will be on display, as well as a series of articles dedicated to Charlie Chaplin and the Charlot Award, written by students from the Torquato Tasso, Francesco Severi and Alfano I high schools, and the ceramic statuette that is awarded every year to actors, singers, journalists, personalities from the small and big screen, and from the stage, winners of the Charlot Award.

An inauguration that will introduce us to the world of Charlie Chaplin, to his vast "laboratory", to his creative method, to his artistic practice dominated by the obsession of a restless motion, the whirling, unbridled, disjointed succession of gags, and where the search for comic effect often focuses on the absurd for the absurd's sake.

The narrative development of his “short-stories” consists only in the serial juxtaposition of “slapstick” style ideas, which do not even try to join together homogeneously and organize themselves into a whole, includes a musical commentary, already accurate, through the style and genres of the time, ragtime, which will be evoked by the percussion ensemble of the Liceo Musicale Alfano I, a group that will have the task of opening the Chaplin pentagram to the public, with some melodies from City Lights.

A precious exhibition, therefore, to access through the eyes of the children, his personality as an artist, to get as close as possible, from the inside, to his working method: enough, in short, so that from this exhibition, put together with much
love, which can perhaps be reproached for some concessions to myth, but with its same unpredictability and irregularity of creative genius, as well as a certain expository "disorder" - let us all come away with the renewed persuasion not only of the greatness of Chaplin's mimic talent, but of his extraordinary qualities as an artist in the fullest sense of the term.

In addition to the patron Claudio Tortora, the ribbon cutting ceremony will be attended by, among others, the Honorable Piero De Luca, the regional councilor Franco Picarone, the mayor of Salerno Vincenzo Napoli, the president of the province Franco Alfieri, the head teachers of the three high schools, Elisabetta Barone, Barbara Figliolia and Carmela Santarcangelo.

The exhibition will be open to the public free of charge, every day except Mondays, until April 2, from 10 am to 13 pm and from 17 pm to 22 pm.

Inside the foyer there will also be a piggy bank for a fundraiser to support the diocesan Caritas and the Mensa dei Poveri.
