A circular from the Prefect blocks birth certificates from abroad for children born to same-sex couples in our country.
The Prefect of Milan, at the instigation of the Ministry of the Interior, has requested the interruption of the recognition at the birth of children of rainbow families, warning that if such practices were to continue, the intervention of the Prosecutor's Office for the annulment will be necessary.
The Prefecture requested the interruption of the transcriptions by referring to Law 40 of 2004, regarding medically assisted procreation, which is only permitted to couples formed by people of different sexes and which in turn prohibits surrogate motherhood.
This decision is in stark contrast with what is stated in the European Union Regulation, currently under discussion in the European Policies Committee of the Senate. The Regulation asks Member States to recognize the rights of homoparental families, an issue that once again sees Italy among the last countries in the Union capable of filling the regulatory gaps aimed at protecting civil rights.
