Article Key Points
The album 'Life' is a message from a woman to women but also an invitation to those who want to resist, because they can and must. The song of the same name tells of the ambivalence of life, a theme addressed with the style of American singer-songwriters, in which Ellen River sings with irony about the difficulties that life sometimes presents us. A life that can be conditioned by attitudes assumed involuntarily that lead to further complicating it, where the continuous struggling to stay afloat and, at the same time, its ability to pleasantly surprise you lead to unexpected surprises.
The single, title track of this “ambitious” project, is narratively representative of the approach to life through irreverent irony and the desire to look at the less pleasant aspects from an objective point of view, but always with a glimmer of light that keeps the smile and hope alive.
In 'Life', light-hearted sounds and incisive lyrics coexist and the ambivalence between light and shadow emerges, which characterizes the artistic style of Ellen River, of that dusty America of the most rural and straightforward songwriters where the story and the stories of life are at the center of the song.
In the song, supporting Ellen, we find the guitars of Boris Casadei, the rhythm section of drums and percussion of Diego Sapignoli and the bass of Rodolfo Valdifiori.
All expertly mixed by Gianluca Morelli of Studio DekLab in Rimini, also in the role of co-producer.
Biography
“Emilian singer-songwriter with America in her heart”, a peculiarity that emerges in Ellen River's artistic style, strongly influenced by the various musical genres that have come from overseas and that blend perfectly into the singer-songwriter's narrative style. From Lucinda Williams to Tori Amos, from Etta James to Sheryl Crow and, then, Solomon Burke, Dolly Parton, Black Crowes, Joan Osborne, Otis Redding, Robert Plant, Billie Holiday, Rolling Stones up to the late John Prine, a host of artists who are in Ellen's heart, and who have strongly influenced the lyrics and music of the previous album 'Lost Souls', the first work under the name Ellen River released in 2018. With 'Life' we arrive at the definitive artistic maturation, where the sound is more representative, the lyrics convey direct and visceral messages that in the 27 songs, all of her own composition, country music, folk, blues and rock come to life with their own light, as in the best tradition of American singer-songwriter.
