"If you experience any serious illnesses, please report them to us," said the rector of the Federico II University., Matteo Lorito, commenting on the death of the 27-year-old student from Somma Vesuviana, Diana Biondi.

And then he added: "We're not just education providers; we want to continue helping our weakest and most vulnerable. This is a huge loss, because when a young life is lost, it's always a terrible thing."

"Your university kills. We're sorry, Diana," he wrote on a banner the Collective self-organized university. Meanwhile, death remains, that of Diana and Riccardo's dreams.

Yet Diana had let everyone know, including her parents and friends, that everything was ready. Or at least that's what everyone thought. She wanted to graduate with a degree in modern literature, and last Tuesday that day had finally arrived. The date for the ceremony was set, as was the party.

But to Diana there was an exam missing, That of LatinShe knew it, and so did her classmates. But the rest of her world—her family, her boyfriend—didn't know that missing piece. And so, perhaps, Diana couldn't bring herself to admit that there wouldn't be a graduation the next day.

E she killed herself, at 27 years old, throwing himself off a cliff at Somma Vesuviana, in the province of Naples. Her story is dramatically identical to that of other young people. Stories that repeat themselves, then. They searched for Diana for three days. Her father immediately realized something wasn't right.

Diana is a quiet girl, he repeated continuously during these hours. And so, when she started not answering his phone calls, he reported her disappearance to the police, he written in the university chat, described how her daughter was dressed the last time she left the house, she gave as many details as possible.

Details like those of the last whatsapp messages that the girl sent to her father. After yet another phone call, Diana wrote that she would go to the university library. Frederick II, to withdraw the thesis, and that she would return to Somma Vesuviana with the 16pm train Naples.

But she probably never got on that train. And she probably never entered that library, given that her face never appears in the university's security cameras. Then there was the final message: "I can't talk"And after the silence, the anguish and a black handbag hanging from a railing.

A few meters from that handbag, Diana's body lay. A body, with dead dreams inside. It was a message from a friend from Diana's class that shed light on what might have been at the bottom of that ravine: "He had said he was going to collect his thesis, but he hadn't graduated yet."

From there the police investigations and the discovery of the missing piece of those 27 years of life.

"Once again, a suicide, once again a girl who can't find a way out and can't handle the pressure of expectations, competition, and the need to be good and perform. Our deepest sympathy goes to Diana's family, who committed suicide on her birthday because she lied about her graduation date.". It says so Elisabetta Piccolotti of the Green Left Alliance on the tragic incident involving a student at the Federico II University of Naples.

"Our universities must be able to listen to the needs and requirements of young people - The red-green representative of the Montecitorio culture commission continues It would be essential to have key figures to care for their frailties and mental health. A psychologist in every faculty is becoming a necessity for many.

But more is needed; we need to rethink the educational community as a meeting place for different specialists and professionals, capable of offering comprehensive care and listening. These are issues we are already working on in Parliament, including through legislative proposals. If we don't address students' emotional well-being," Piccolotti concludes, "we're essentially not even addressing the quality of education."
