The dynamics of the accident that occurred yesterday morning at dawn on state road 162, one of the arteries that connect the Vesuvian province to Naples, between Cercola and Sant'Anastasia, caused two victims and four injuries, one of whom is still in serious condition, are still unclear.
The crash, which involved five cars, killed Martina Persico, a 30-year-old from Massa Lubrense , and Francesco Cataldo , a 27-year-old from Naples who lived with his Cervino family in the province of Caserta. A friend of Martina's, originally from Pagani in the province of Salerno, was in the car with her. She was admitted to Monaldi Hospital , where her life is still in danger. The three drivers of the other cars involved in the accident are hospitalized at Secondo Policlinico , where they sustained various injuries but their lives are not in danger.
Carabinieri from the Castello di Cisterna company, the Sant'Anastasia station , and the investigative unit, survey section, of the Castello di Cisterna group are investigating the incident. The officers carried out checks until late yesterday morning, when the road was reopened to traffic.
All those involved in the fatal collision were subjected to alcohol and drug tests to determine whether they were fit to drive at the time of the accident.
Martina Persico, mother of a young girl, and who was a singer in clubs by profession, was travelling on board a Fiat 500 for sale , led by her friend, while Francesco Cataldo he was alone and was driving a Citroen C4.
The young women were returning from a nightclub , and Cataldo had just dropped his girlfriend off before heading home. The most likely cause of the accident is speed and distraction on the part of one of the drivers involved.
Since yesterday, social media has been flooded with photos and memories of the two victims, especially Martina Persico, who was well-known beyond the Sorrento peninsula where she lived.
Massa Lubrense Mayor Lorenzo Balducelli posted a message of condolences to the family on his official Facebook page: "Martina's tragic passing at an age when one should live, not die, is an immense pain that has affected the entire community of Massa Lubrense . On behalf of myself, the Municipal Administration, and all the citizens, I express my condolences and my closeness to her father Cataldo, her mother Carolina, her little daughter, and all her family.
I am sure that in these days we will all gather around them. Unfortunately, our affection and our closeness will not be able to erase the pain of such a serious loss for a father, a mother and above all for a daughter”.
