It was supposed to be the work to free the village of from vehicular traffic Ischia Ponte but after ten years of vicissitudes the Siena parking lot was seized by the traffic police and the Municipality ordered its demolition.

The order to demolish and restore the state of the places was issued by the head of the private building office of the municipality of Ischia by means of an ordinance from which the many discrepancies and abuses found in the work compared to the original project are evident, following an assessment carried out in recent days by a specialized technician identified by the municipal police in agreement with the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office.

The irregularities and building abuses are even more serious if we consider that the car park, which was nearing completion, was built in an area subject to landscape restrictions (an area with Integral Protection under the current Landscape Territorial Plan and a short distance from the Aragonese Castle) and that the building complex in question was therefore built with essential variations.

The Siena parking lot is the subject of a long-standing affair that has caused much controversy on the island: designed about 13 years ago by a private company and co-financed with European funds, it was supposed to solve the traffic and logistics problems of Ischia Ponte by making over 200 parking spaces available in that area.

Its construction was supposed to last a few years and instead dragged on for a decade due to a series of technical problems; the presence of the construction site and the inconveniences created by the lack of a rest area near the characteristic island village, a destination for thousands of tourists every year, had also led to the creation of a civic committee that has repeatedly asked the Ischian administration to resolve the problem by eliminating the heavy environmental impact generated by the work which, originally, had instead been declared completely integrated into the landscape.

Today the committee said they were satisfied with the measure but were still concerned about the prospect of a possible long legal case that could freeze the situation.
