Gaetano E., the 58-year-old man from Maiori who had been found unconscious on Monday evening in his apartment on a side street of Via Nuova Chiunzi.
The two ambulance workers from the Croce Bianca rescued him. When they arrived, the man was in cardiac arrest. The driver, Andrea Villaricca from Amalfi, and the nurse, Alfonso Ferrante from San Valentino Torio (the on-board doctor, as is increasingly the case, was unavailable), both trained in first aid to support vital functions, immediately performed lifesaving maneuvers, administering adrenaline and performing cardiac massage according to protocols.
After about 15 interminable minutes, Gaetano's heart began beating again, albeit slowly. Meanwhile, a crowd of people had gathered in the street. The man, well-known in Maiori, was transported by ambulance to the Costa d'Amalfi Emergency Room.

The emergency medical team and cardiologist on duty were already alerted, and they intubated him and administered the required drug therapy, as well as blood tests. His condition was extremely serious.
An ambulance transfer to a fully equipped hospital was necessary. Due to the unavailability of beds at the Ruggi d'Aragona Hospital in Salerno, the patient was referred to the Umberto I Hospital in Nocera Inferiore. There, the doctors in the Neurology Department took care of the rest. Today, Gaetano's family and friends thank the emergency medical services who saved his life, and he remains under observation in the General Medicine Department of the Nocera Inferiore hospital.
