We're all singing it nonstop now. The theme song for Mare fuori is irresistible and is contributing to the ever-expanding success of the series set in a juvenile prison in Naples. But who sings it? Let's find out!
“ 'O mar for ”, the iconic theme song of Mare fuori , is sung by the actor Matteo Paolillo, who plays Edoardo Conte in the series.
Matteo also signed the piece together with the musician and producer Lorenzo Gennaro (aka Lolloflow) and the composer Stefano Lentini, who is the author of the original music of the show. The song also features Raiz, the singer of the historic Neapolitan group Almamegretta, who in the series plays the part of Don Salvatore Ricci, Ciro and Rosa's father.
Matteo Paolillo, who under the stage name Icaro also wrote other songs featured on the Mare fuori soundtrack , such as "Sangue nero" and "Origami all'alba," explained how "'O mar for" came about in an interview with TV Talk: " I wrote this song while preparing for the character. We were already filming the first season. I wrote the song and sent it to the WhatsApp group with the cast. They loved it, and on set they started singing it, then the crew and the director arrived. Then the director said to me, 'Let's make it the theme song .'"
Matteo was also a guest at Sanremo 2023, where he sang the theme song together with the rest of the cast of the series.
After their appearance at the Festival, the actor and singer-songwriter shared on Instagram: “ Four years ago I wrote a song to give myself hope. I wanted to remember the sea in times of difficulty. Then this song spread like wildfire and gave me hope. And a lot of love came back to me. Singing 'O mar for on the Ariston stage was beyond my wildest dreams. And I still can't believe it . ”
