Dozens of people gathered in Naples to pay their respects to the mural—soon to be removed—depicting Ugo Russo, the 15-year-old killed three years ago by a plainclothes police officer during an attempted robbery.
It happened on Sunday evening at Largo Parrocchiella in the Spanish quarters where, in addition to citizens and activists from the Truth and Justice Committee for Ugo Russo, the boy's parents were present.
“We will keep my son's memory alive in every way possible – Vincenzo Russo reiterated to those present – and to those who forced us to erase the mural we want to reiterate that you can censor a work but not the truth!”.
“The meeting – the spokespersons of the Committee explained in a note, reiterating that the mural will be covered in a few days – was also an opportunity to meet on Thursday at 10.30:XNUMX in front of the courthouse for the second hearing of the murder trial against the carabiniere”.
Because as Enzo Russo reiterated, "those who want to silence us will not succeed", you can censor a work but not the truth! After all, over a thousand inhabitants had signed against its removal, delivering the petition to the municipality which however obeyed the input of those who wanted to censor it pretending that it was for the master plan ... ".
Each participant took a copy of the “Truth and Justice” poster with a photo of the mural to post in a different spot in the Spanish Quarters and the city. In fact, the initiatives will soon continue to keep alive in the collective memory the principle that there are no “guilty victims” and that everyone has the right to truth and justice, especially for a 15-year-old boy.
