The issue of the Metropolitan Cinema in Naples is being addressed by the Ministry of Culture. A working group has been convened next week at the Collegio Romano, involving the facility's managers and Banca Intesa Sanpaolo, the owner of the premises. Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano, ABAP General Director Luigi La Rocca, Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, and the Minister's Advisor Luciano Schifone will be present.
We are reviewing the regulatory framework, but the closure of the Metropolitan would represent a serious loss for the city of Naples and its culture. Even worse, as we learn from press reports that we hope are unfounded, the building is at risk of becoming a supermarket or a bingo hall. I hope these reports are unfounded. - said Minister Sangiuliano - The common denominator must be the will to save the Metropolitan."

We are working to assess the possibility of establishing a relational constraint that would link the site to its intended use. The cinema, when it opened in the 1950s, was among the largest in Italy and Europe. We must do everything we can to save this symbol of the city, at a time when there are only tentative signs of recovery in terms of box office attendance., concluded the Minister.
