A record number of nominations for the 2023 Strega Prize: the Amici della Domenica, as the literary award's historic jury is called, have nominated 80 Italian-language fiction books, published between March 1, 2022, and February 28, 2023, for the 2022th edition. In 74, there were XNUMX nominations.

The deadline for submitting volumes expired today at 12:12 p.m. It is now up to the award's Steering Committee—composed of Pietro Abate, Giuseppe D'Avino, Valeria Della Valle, Ernesto Ferrero, Alberto Foschini, Paolo Giordano, Dacia Maraini, Melania G. Mazzucco (president), Gabriele Pedullà, Stefano Petrocchi, Marino Sinibaldi, Antonio Scurati, and Giovanni Solimine—to select the 2023 titles that will compete for the XNUMX edition.

Among the nominations, six are from books published by Mondadori, where Romana Petri seems to be the favorite for the selection with "Stealing the Night," presented by Teresa Ciabatti, an author who missed out on the shortlist in 2021 with her acclaimed "Seemed Beauty." Marsilio has four books, where Elisa Fuksas could prevail with "Not Flowers but Good Works," presented by former Rome mayor Francesco Rutelli.

Two Einaudi books are in the running, including Maria Grazia Calandrone's "Dove non mi hai portato." Three books are from La Nave di Teseo, including singer-songwriter Ermal Meta's debut, "Domani e per sempre."
Bompiani also includes three authors: Vincenzo Latronico ("Le perfezioni") and Igiaba Scego ("Cassandra a Mogadiscio"), introduced by Jhumpa Lahiri. Other favorites include Marcello Fois with "La mia Babele" (Solferino) and, above all, Rosella Postorino with "Mi limitavo ad amare te" (Feltrinelli), introduced by Nicola Lagioia, an author fresh from the resounding success of 2018's "Le assaggiatrici," which garnered eight awards, including the Campiello Prize. The final dozen will be announced on Thursday, March 30, at a press conference held at the Rome Chamber of Commerce in the Hall of the Temple of Vibia Sabina and Hadrian.

The announcement of the five finalists will take place on June 7th in Benevento, at the Roman Theatre, in the presence of the twelve candidates and the public, while the election of the winner will take place on July 6th in the traditional Roman setting of the National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia.
