Protect the archaeological heritage of Castellammare it must be in everyone's interest. The deputies Arturo Scotto and Marco Sarracino with a written question have urged the intervention of the Minister of Culture, in light of the findings at the construction site for the doubling of the Circumvesuviana works. "What is happening, they write, is unacceptable."
To the Minister of Culture – to know – Given that:
work is underway on the line managed by Eav that connects Naples with Sorrento to create a second track;
these works significantly affect the territory of the Municipality of Castellammare di Stabia;
in the municipal territory, as well as a large part of the Vesuvian territory, there are settlements from the Roman era. Settlements that more than once have made it necessary to block the works for the discovery of finds of historical interest;
it appears to the questioners that this is the third discovery, and it is feared that this time too they will proceed as happened in the square in front of the Castellammare del Golfo station on the Circumvesuviana and in via R. Margherita, on that occasion while excavating in Piazza Unità d'Italia some finds were discovered, the construction site was blocked and the remains covered up;
what is happening and has happened in the silence of the top management of the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of the metropolitan area of Naples and in the stubbornness to refuse a confrontation by the EAV is unacceptable;
this time a large-scale construction site has opened on the front of the Varano hill, where the villas of Stabiae are located, giving rise to a waste of resources to build a tunnel that is not only useless but also harmful;
What initiatives – within your jurisdiction – do you intend to undertake to protect the archaeological and cultural heritage that exists in the territory of Castellammare di Stabia and whether you do not deem it necessary to entrust the entire municipal territory of Castellammare to the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, removing it from the jurisdiction of the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of the Metropolitan Area of Naples in order to give full protection and enhancement to the entire archaeological and cultural heritage present in the city territory.
