On the restoration project of the Bell Tower of the Cathedral of Amalfi, the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Salerno and Avellino has issued the following press release: "In 2017, the Superintendency of Salerno and Avellino approved the restoration project for the bell tower of the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea Apostolo in Amalfi (SA), proposed by the Archbishop's Curia as the owner of the property, which included restoration work on the external surfaces of the masonry and the decorative elements.

The works authorized by the Superintendency were never started by the property. The funding provided by the Ministry of Culture, which sees the Regional Secretariat of Campania as the Contracting Authority, took over after the 2017 project.

This design was aimed at preventing seismic risk and, therefore, aimed at identifying, in accordance with the Guidelines for the assessment of seismic risk of cultural heritage and DGBeAp Circular 8538 of 25/02/2016 and in light of the new NTC 2018, those seismic improvement works and increased static safety of the monument, in any case necessary for the conservation of the asset, and are also accompanied, within the limits of the financial availability provided, by restoration interventions of the decorated surfaces of the bell chamber, the most vulnerable element of the complex.

The statement from the Superintendency of Salerno and Avellino continues: "The project, drawn up by technicians from the Campania Regional Secretariat, has been approved by the Superintendency, and the tender procedures for the planned works are underway. Although the conservation obligations set forth in Article 30 of the Cultural Heritage Code fall on the property owner, and following reports of falling plaster, the Superintendency has ordered the property owner to secure the property (also to prevent harm to public safety).

At the same time, given the state of degradation highlighted in the monument, which represents a unique example of the historical, artistic, and landscape culture of the area, it has promoted on several occasions the opportunity to finance its restoration.
