Also this season there is great anticipation for the “Burlesque Cabaret Napoli” Company.

On Friday, March 10, “Les Folies Napolitaines” by the Compagnia Burlesque Cabaret Napoli, born in 30 from the meeting between Floriana D'Ammora and Roberta della Volpe, aka Fanny Damour and Roby Roger, returns to the stage of the Teatro Bolivar (Via Bartolomeo Caracciolo, 21.00), directed by Nu'Tracks, starting at 2013:XNUMX p.m. The show is inspired by the variety shows of the golden age of Paris at the Les Folies Bergère theater. It harks back to a European tradition of music hall, variety shows and cabaret where there was a licentious, erotic and at the same time comical atmosphere.

Les Folies Napolitaines alternates sketches in which each performer is the protagonist and brings to the stage his or her personal vision of eroticism, crossing the invisible line between stage and spectator. The common basis of the performances is the striptease, where everyone can remove what they want, let glimpses, drag the audience into another era, into a dreamlike dimension made of feathers, sequins, paillettes and early jazz music. A fundamental characteristic for those who attend Les Folies is breaking the classic rules of being in the theater. The fourth wall is torn down, the interaction and dialectic with the audience is part of the show.

Fanny Damour is an Italian performer and illustrator born and raised in Naples. In 2015 she won the first edition of the Milan Extraordinaire festival with the international jury of the Ministry School of Burlesque and the magazine This is Cabaret of London. She has participated in important festivals such as Hebden Bridge Burlesque Festival in the UK, Amsterdam Burlesque Award, Ginevra Burlesque Festival, New York Burelsque Festival, and has performed internationally in Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto) and the United States (New York, San Francisco, Chicago, New Orleans) for the main Cabarets in the world.

Roby Roger is a graphic designer and dancer from Naples. Winner of the Italian Music Award for best graphic design for the album Immaginaria by Almamegretta. She was part of the cast of the film “Passione” directed by John Turturro, presented in 2010 at the 67th Venice International Film Festival. She is part of the staff of Burlesque.it, the first portal dedicated to Burlesque in Italy. She also created WOW! a graphic tribute to international burlesque, exhibited at the Milan Burlesque Award in 2012.

History

In the 19th century, in the USA and Great Britain, burlesque was a show that parodied the world, habits and pastimes of the aristocracy and rich industrialists, to entertain the less well-off classes. There was a plot, however thin; songs, dance numbers, a lot of comedy. But, to keep the public's interest alive, the promoters of the shows had no qualms about adding female nudity on stage. The genre was very popular for over half a century and then went through a period of oblivion. For about twenty years it has been brought back into fashion and an international scene has flourished, involving artists from all over the world and performance venues such as old theatres and small clubs. Naples seems to be the ideal city to host entertainment shows of European and American origin, but which at the same time have a strong link with the Neapolitan tradition, such as that of the Cafè Chantant, an Italian version of the French Cabaret shows, with a licentious atmosphere. The first Burlesque Academy in southern Italy was established about seven years ago with the aim of creating a Burlesque scene with an international flavor in the city of Naples, and of staging choral shows as happens in most of the big cities in the world. From the expert work of these years, new artistic personalities and synergies have been born that have made it possible to create events, workshops and shows with foreign artists, such as the first co-production of the European format Cabaret Bizarre, hosted in the suggestive spaces of the Naples Underground at the Museo del Sottosuolo.
