"Shedding light on the death of Angelo Vassallo is a duty towards our family, but also towards all the institutions of the Italian Republic.
Because killing a mayor, besides being a profound wound inflicted on his loved ones and his community, the citizens of Pollica (Salerno), is a wound to the entire country and its representatives."
Dario Vassallo and Massimo Vassallo, brothers of Angelo Vassallo, president and vice president, respectively, of the foundation named after the fisherman mayor, said this while commenting on the conclusion of the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the phenomenon of the mafia, specifically regarding the murder of Mayor Angelo Vassallo in Pollica on September 5, 2010. This work was not completed by the end of the legislative session.
This document testifies to the work of the committee established within the Anti-Mafia Commission, which investigated the murder of our brother Angelo. Just reading what's reported on the second page is enough to understand the love and dedication of our parliamentarians and members of this Committee.

We thank the committee for their work, but above all for their words to us: "If light is shed on the facts surrounding Angelo Vassallo's murder, it will only be thanks to a portion of the institutions that continued to investigate, even when the truth seemed beyond hope.
The relentless work of a part of the family, who tried in every way to keep attention focused on the administrative action, on the personal history, and on the death of Angelo Vassallo, has been crucial. Dario and Massimo Vassallo deserve recognition for the spirit of those who find themselves navigating the open seas amidst a thousand difficulties. Finally, an appeal to the deputies and senators in office: "For once, forget your political affiliations and remember that when a mayor is killed, the state is killed.
Angelo's story is a symbol for all Italian citizens and politicians. It cannot be contained or pushed into a corner. It is a tragic page in the entire history of the Republic."
