In just a few months, over 100 tons of waste were apparently buried carelessly on agricultural land in the Naples area, according to an investigation that led to arrests by the Carabinieri today.
At the spill sites, numerous highly polluting substances were sampled – with the support of Arpa Campania, the regional environmental agency – capable of seriously damaging and deteriorating the soil matrix and the environment, including asbestos and hydrocarbons.
Two of the suspects subject to the order have been placed in custody in prison; three of the suspects are under house arrest and the remaining four have been ordered to report to the judicial police. The seizure of the headquarters of the company in question as well as two waste treatment plants, seven trucks and two mechanical shovels, all owned by the company, has been ordered.
