As part of the effort to combat illicit trafficking, the finance police of the Provincial Command of Naples seized over 1,3 tons of contraband cigarettes of the “Marlboro” and “Winston” brands.
During the checks extended to the entire province, in fact, a warehouse used as a clandestine warehouse was identified in the municipality of Boscoreale, inside which 6.987 packs of contraband cigarettes were found, ready to supply the various Neapolitan squares.
In particular, a patrol of financial police from the Economic and Financial Police Unit of Naples, engaged in monitoring the Oplonti area, noticed the suspicious movements of two individuals who, continuously, loaded cardboard boxes with no specific references to their contents onto 2 vehicles present in the square in front of a building.
Suspicious of the circumstance, the military of the yellow flames decided to proceed with a more in-depth check at the end of which they found the illicit traffic.
Furthermore, the initial investigations conducted also revealed the counterfeiting of the seized products.
The two individuals, both resident in Torre Annunziata, with specific criminal records for smuggling, were placed under house arrest by order of the local Public Prosecutor's Office and tried with a summary trial.
The cigarettes, if placed on black markets, would have brought in over 200 thousand euros.
The service activity, carried out by the Economic and Financial Police Unit of Naples, demonstrates the constant commitment of the Guardia di Finanza in combating the smuggling of products intended for consumption which, in addition to being potentially risky for health, damage the market and take away opportunities and work from companies that operate legally.
