A young wolf was found dead in the countryside in the province of Caserta. However, it was not a natural death or an accident, but the poor animal was the victim of a snare trap left on site by poachers, probably for wild boars.
And it is precisely the case to talk about poaching because these tools are absolutely prohibited by law, since - in addition to causing enormous suffering to the animals that are their victims - they do not allow to select the animal to capture and therefore they can kill domestic or protected animals, as in this case.
“This is how many hunters behave, without any respect for the rules. It is natural to think that this kind of thing happens at the hands of people dedicated to hunting, because no ordinary person would even go to the trouble of making traps of this type or know how to do it.
Some hunters, however, are not satisfied with going around armed to kill anything that moves in the ways and periods allowed and so they leave these deadly traps to reap other victims. We at LNDC Animal Protection obviously are not standing by and watching and are filing a complaint for this episode, hoping that the investigations will allow us to trace who is responsible for all this”, says Piera Rosati – President of LNDC Animal Protection.
"The wolf is a particularly protected animal because, until recently, it was threatened with extinction and plays a fundamental role in the balance of wildlife. There is so much complaint about the presence of wild boars, and then we engage in these behaviors that endanger—and in this specific case kill—the only animals that naturally prey on and limit the number of ungulates. This contradiction demonstrates how indifferent hunters are to the environment, nature, and biodiversity, focusing only on their perverse and cruel pastime ," concludes Rosati.
