Castellammare. The citizens of the Cmi neighborhoods are mobilizing with a signature collection to ask for attention for the neighborhood in which they live. The straw that broke the camel's back was the intervention of the Fire Brigade on Tuesday, April 11 to eliminate the dangers due to the conditions of the buildings.

The petition's promoters say this fact "represents confirmation of the conditions of abandonment that residents have been denouncing for years. The lack of maintenance by the IACP (now ACER), the lack of any planning by the Municipality, have created situations of hardship and living conditions for many residents that are absolutely unacceptable."

The complaint then continues: "Having to acknowledge that Acer has lost over a billion euros with the 110 bonus and other measures, intended for the neighborhoods, therefore, including Castellammare and the CMI, is truly infuriating ." The residents of the neighborhood are truly fed up and are asking: Who is responsible for this hoax?

"The Municipality should take responsibility for what happened and initiate discussions with the Region and Acer on the plans and interventions they plan to implement on the entire public building stock. We demand this." Stopping the degradation is the protest cry from the Stabia suburbs.

“The CMI neighborhood – we read in the text of the petition – has demonstrated great willingness over the years, from having accepted the location of the purifier in the 80s, with all the problems and inconveniences that this created.

For some time now there has been talk of projects and revitalization of our area and the neighborhood; of the interventions to be implemented on Corso De Gasperi. If we exclude the construction of M.diStabia, still incomplete, due to the failure to complete the works on land, which should have been built in place of the old industrial warehouses, and open the port to the city; little or nothing has been done, if we exclude the joke of the playground.

The concrete facts, however, still present us with abandoned industrial areas (from AVIS and Mulini Daunia), new realities in crisis (MEB), a railway network, almost abandoned, that cuts the neighborhood off from the relationship with the sea; and, lastly, also a beach plan - recently approved - that takes away spaces from citizens to assign them in concession to private individuals.
In short: when the sea was polluted, citizens could go there freely, now that the conditions for bathing are returning, those who want to sunbathe must pay. Let's stop this situation".

The citizens of the CMI neighborhood ask

– Interventions to block degradation and a plan to give a new function to the neighborhood;
– the possibility, with the intervention financed to modernize the Gragnano-Cmmare- T.Annta railway line, of creating connections between the neighborhood and C.De Gasperi;
– the definition of the timescales for the recovery of the sports area and for the identification of new services and public spaces;
We ask for a meeting with the Extraordinary Commission, which today has the responsibility of guiding our Municipality, and the opening of a discussion with the Region, Metropolitan City, FFSS and ACER”
