The streets of central Naples are overflowing with tourists, and trash cans are overflowing onto the pavement, creating an unedifying spectacle that is ill-suited to the booming popularity and tourism that the Campanian capital is currently experiencing.

A citizen, who contacted the Green-Left alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, documented the waste bin emergency between via Toledo and Piazza Trieste e Trento.

“A situation that is nothing short of embarrassing, which we have been denouncing for years with the help of activists, militants and citizens. The waste bins installed in the city are not sufficient to cover the daily needs of citizens and visitors, especially in some areas and periods of the year.

We are now approaching the summer season and visitors will continue to increase. Asia needs to study solutions that can put an end to the emergency. We believe we need more bins, some of which, at least in strategic locations, have larger capacities, and more cleaning and emptying interventions, especially in areas with high tourist traffic. These solutions must be studied and implemented as soon as possible. We have been repeating this for some time,” Borrelli stated.
