Controversy over the refereeing of Milan-Napoli, the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals won 1-0 by the Rossoneri. The refereeing of Mr. Istvan Kovacs was in the spotlight. After the match, Napoli coach Spalletti expressed his doubts over some decisions, in particular the failure to give warnings to Rossoneri players Leao and Krunic.
Napoli ended the match with 10 men after Anguissa was sent off. After the match, as revealed by videos that went viral on Twitter, there was a curious situation in the mixed zone. Referee Kovacs paraded in front of reporters and some journalists presumably underlined, in English, “Bad match” and said “Shame” and “Vergogna” while the referee designator Roberto Rosetti (who was also the referee observer) also passed by.
On the matter, Napoli Calcio issued a statement in which it "firmly condemns the protest by some journalists against the referee in the mix zone at the end of the match played at the Meazza San Siro in Milan".
