Police officers were poisoned in Baia Verde , Castel Volturno , after responding to a fire in a villa. A report from the operations room to the local police station brought a patrol to the scene; the home was already engulfed in flames, and thick smoke was billowing from the windows.
Outside the building's fence, a group of people persistently tried to open the entrance gate, while inside the building's courtyard, a young man was screaming for help. The patrol officers climbed over the fence and managed to rescue him.
While waiting for the emergency services to arrive, the police officers then forced open a French window and entered the house to check for the presence of other people, only to be hit by a thick cloud of black smoke.
Having reached the point where the fire had started, they turned off the power and, using makeshift means, contained the blaze, even saving a dog . Firefighters extinguished the flames. An electrical fault is believed to have caused the fire. However, the officers, feeling unwell from inhaling smoke, sought medical attention at the emergency room of the nearby Pineta Grande hospital.
