A Legambiente delegation composed of representatives from the national, regional and local branches met this morning in Ischia with Giovanni Legnini, Commissioner for the landslide emergency and post-earthquake reconstruction of 2017.
After an initial meeting at the headquarters of the commissioner's office in Ischia Porto, during which Commissioner Legnini presented the actions already put in place to address the landslide emergency and to give impetus to the activities for securing the island and for reconstruction.
The Legambiente delegation accompanied the Commissioner on a sea tour of the island for an inspection of some areas of the island affected by the landslide of November 2022. At the end of the meeting it was decided to start a collaboration between the commissioner structure and Legambiente, in continuity with the experience had in the territory of central Italy for the post-earthquake reconstruction. The meeting was also attended by the Prefectural Commissioner of the municipality of Casamicciola Simonetta Calcaterra
"We met with Commissioner Legnini ," commented Mariateresa Imparato, President of Legambiente Campania, " to offer our contribution to making Ischia a 'model construction site' for safe and high-quality reconstruction, ensuring transparency and legality for the necessary urban and economic regeneration of the affected areas, focusing on environmental and social innovation and the creation of energy communities. We believe that the construction experience initiated with the commissioner's office for post-earthquake reconstruction in central Italy can be replicated on the island."
We believe - concludes the president of Legambiente Campania - that here too the regeneration passes from an important protagonism of civil society and of the entire local community and for this reason as an environmental association we will give our contribution. The comparison, the exchange of information is the main road to face together the complexity of the elements and problems, both environmental (definitive safety, environmental landscape redevelopment, etc.), and social (dialogue with citizens to guarantee the right to live and live in safety) that have weighed on the island for years.
