From 4 to 6 May 2023, the Pietrarsa National Railway Museum will host Libri in viaggio, the second edition of the Salone del Libro – Città di Portici organized by the “Quinto Orazio Flacco” high school of Portici (NA).
“More than 50 authors, 30 publishing houses, dozens of events including workshops, round tables, presentations, theatrical and musical performances will enliven the three-day Salone del Libro.
The event will feature major partners and sponsors, representatives of local and international institutions, and, above all, the involvement of all local schools. "These figures demonstrate the extraordinary organizational effort led by our school staff, who have put together this event with tireless dedication," proudly commented Iolanda Giovidelli, principal of the "Flacco" High School. " My personal thanks go to everyone, and I naturally extend them to those who have supported and contributed so strongly to this project: the FS Italiane Foundation, the Pietrarsa Railway Museum, the Campania Region, the Municipality of Portici, the Diocesan Museum of Naples, with the collaboration of, among others, the Centro San Ciro and Banca di Credito Popolare."
Authors and publishing houses represent a balanced mix of national realities and local expressions. In some cases, like Maurizio De Giovanni, the two elements merge: the popular writer has, in fact, transformed Naples into the most crowded set of television series. In addition to him, among the most anticipated guests, Dacia Maraini - who will receive honorary citizenship from Vincenzo Cuomo Mayor of the Municipality of Portici - Chiara Gamberale, Lorenzo Marone, Ugo Cardinale, Michelangelo Iossa, Marino Niola and Elisabetta Moro. A notable space will be ensured for poetry, thanks to the contribution of some of the most famous protagonists of the sector in Italy.
The preview of the Portici Book Fair is scheduled at the Diocesan Museum of Naples, on April 27, with the round table “From the bad road to the right path”, which will see the participation of, among others, Monsignor Adolfo Russo, Nino Daniele, Gianluca Guida, Samuele Ciambriello.
"Some of the workshops ," continues Head of School Iolanda Giovidelli, " will take place at the nearby high school, at Via Scalea 30. These activities are designed especially for our young people, to whom the event is primarily dedicated. Organized with the participation of prestigious figures from the Italian cultural scene, the workshops will feature local schools. The editors of Comete, our online school newspaper, will handle the event's press office. The newspaper, duly registered thanks to an agreement with the Order of Journalists, will allow our students to become journalists upon completion of the course required by current regulations. On the opening day, there will be a debate dedicated to the condition of women, and actress Cristina Donadio will thrill us with dramatized readings from the book "D" by Angela Procaccini. On the closing day, an event that is very important to me will be introduced by the Regional Councilor for Education, Lucia Fortini: it will be a round table discussion, moderated by the President of the Maestri di Strada Cesare Moreno, which will feature, In addition to Professor Mantegazza, students from various local institutions will share their ideas about school.
The leitmotif of the event is travel. The journey between literature and everyday life is illustrated in the presentation poster: " Each book represents a safe haven or a secret refuge, an escape from reality, but also an opportunity to grow and question oneself, one's choices, and one's vision of the world."
“When we read ,” Giovidelli concludes, “ the story no longer belongs to the author or the characters, but becomes an integral part of ourselves and our lives.”
