"The mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, is calling the city to read. Starting with the younger generations, in keeping with the program outlined by the city administration since taking office and also implemented by the Fondazione Premio Napoli, now chaired by the writer Maurizio De Giovanni ," reads a statement from the City of Naples.
The event, "Naples Reads. Three Days of Public Reading, Social, and Inclusive," will take place from April 21st to 23rd. The primary focus will be on the associations participating in the Territorial Tables of the Pact for Reading: they will simultaneously animate the various outdoor and indoor spaces of the various facilities with workshops for children and parents and readings of novels, graphic novels, and poetry. Readings aloud will alternate with initiatives organized by the city's bookstores.
On Friday, April 21st, local schools will be the protagonists. In their various buildings and outdoor spaces, they will be busy organizing readings or meetings with authors, sharing with actors, and performing animated stories.
The program for Saturday, April 22nd, will include a "Call to Read" in all of the city's book and reading spaces, particularly libraries and bookstores. The final day will be held on April 23rd from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the monumental complex of San Domenico Maggiore.
The event will be attended by the Mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, the coordinator of cultural policies, Sergio Locoratolo, the mayor's advisor for libraries and integrated cultural programming, Andrea Mazzucchi, and the president of the Naples Prize Foundation, Maurizio De Giovanni. The morning will feature readings by Maria Francesca Villani, author of the book "La Camorra si studi in terza" (The Camorra is studied in third grade), Patrizio Rispo, a renowned Neapolitan actor, and Giovanna Sannino, the actress who plays "Carmela," Edoardo Conte's wife in the series "Mare Fuori" (Sea Outside). For the event, Sannino will read one of the books from the "Dammi il 5" series, a project promoted in primary schools.
