The Guardia di Finanza of the Provincial Command of Salerno, as part of the economic control activities of the territory, also aimed at preventing and combating illicit trafficking of foreign manufactured tobacco, has carried out, in recent days, the seizure of approximately one ton of cigarettes.

The financial police, following complex and in-depth information-investigative activities, stakeouts and shadowing, especially near the main motorway junctions, managed to identify a van, on board which smugglers were moving numerous quantities of foreign manufactured tobacco, and the warehouse where the goods were stored before being distributed in the Salerno area.

The illegal activity, managed and organized by three individuals, originally from Naples, took place in the municipalities of Agro-Nocerino Sarnese.

In this context, the Guardia di Finanza of the Scafati Company found 900 kg of contraband cigarettes, of various brands present on the market, such as Marlboro, Winston and Regina.

The entire quantity, which initial investigations revealed to be counterfeit, could have illegally generated around 250.000 euros.

At the end of the operation, the military reported the perpetrators to the AG for smuggling of foreign manufactured tobacco and counterfeiting, and proceeded to seize the van and the entire load.

The operation is part of the activities carried out by the Guardia di Finanza to combat smuggling, both at the borders and within the national territory, not least that which concerns in particular the tobacco sector, which represents an important source of profit for organized crime in the area.
