Yesterday evening, the excavation site where a sinkhole opened on Via del Cassano in Secondigliano was secured, a temporary sewer bypass was activated, and the water supply was reactivated. This was announced by the City of Naples regarding the sinkhole that opened last night.
As soon as the weather alert ends, the surface sewerage system will be permanently restored. Residents will have to wait for the next damage check to be completed before they can return to their homes.
In 2021, another sinkhole in the same place
In the same place, in January 2021, a small sinkhole opened up and dragged a car underground. In that case too, the blame was attributed to a sewer pipe that was leaking profusely, which was evidently not the case.
This morning, the Civil Protection will complete the structural checks on the buildings, and only then will the residents of the evacuated buildings be able to return to their homes in Secondigliano.
