The Carabinieri are investigating a car fire that occurred last night in Somma Vesuviana, in the province of Naples. The car belonged to a 54-year-old construction contractor, the father of a former Somma Vesuviana city councilor.
The car, a Renault Captur, was completely destroyed. The flames were put out by the Ponticelli Fire Department who intervened on site in via Carmine. The door of a nearby shop was also damaged.
The car owner and his family, including a one-year-old child, were forced to stay indoors until the firefighters put out the car because it was parked in front of the house.
The Carabinieri are investigating. According to some witnesses, they saw two young people riding a scooter and the area smelled a pungent smell of gasoline.
